Lake Calumet Awareness Month: Workin' on it
I'm nine days into my self-proclaimed Lake Calumet Awareness Month and I haven't written anything on it yet! Perhaps I should have picked a better month?
It's not for lack of trying, I assure you, only mostly for lack of trying. I've been browsing here and there for some more specific information on the ecology of Lake Calumet and the effects of the different kinds of pollution, but I haven't had much luck. I'll confess (boast?) that I have a special knack for BS-ing about things I don't actually know very much about, but sometimes people do catch me at it. (*cough*Aurora*cough*) Anyway, I wanted to write something a little more substantive than just "It's a wetland and wetlands are important for some reason," because that's what everyone else does and it gets tiresome. But it looks like I might have to wade into some scientific literature for this one, and that could take a while. I'm theoretically a very busy woman, you know.
In the meantime, pretty pictures are worth a thousand words. I don't have any, but check out the Illinois Sierra Club's Lake Calumet Photo Gallery.
